THE PRIESTS LIVE AT ARMAGH CATHEDRAL
review by adam harbinson

By any standards The Priests make up a remarkable trio – they hold the Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling UK debut for a classical act. Fr Eugene O’Hagan, Fr Martin O’Hagan and Fr David Delany first met as a threesome at St MacNissi’s College near Carnlough in County Antrim. So determined had they been to enter the priesthood that they were nicknamed Holy Holy Holy by their peers.
After leaving St MacNissi’s College they pursued a variety of academic and theological studies at the Irish College in Rome where their combined talent was discovered almost immediately. Thankfully they came back home and returned to parish work in Ballyclare, Cushendun and Hannahstown respectively.
Now, try to imagine this phenomenal talent accompanied by a full orchestra in the stunning setting of St Patrick’s Cathedral in Armagh, captured on DVD. And then add the haunting sound of Moya Brennan and her harp, together with the unique strains of James Galway’s golden flute as they sing Perfect Time, She Moved Through The Fair, the Londonderry Air and Phil The Fluter’s Ball. The result is something quite indescribable, something you will never tire listening to.
That’s The Priests Live at Armagh Cathedral, a DVD to be launched on March 30th and destined to be another major hit for three extraordinary Irish parish priests.
