THE REAL AL Q'AEDA THREAT - and why it will fail.

In a way it's strange that there should be such a dramatic escalation of militant Islam in recent years, strange because the word 'Islam' implies 'peace', peace that comes from submission of the will to Allah. However, while to the vast majority of Muslims, peace means to live and let live, to others, peace will only come when the entire world is subject to Shari'ah law - and it's well documented that whether by peaceful means or by brute force, Islam is hell-bent on world domination.

Most Muslims are peace loving people who want nothing more than to get on with their lives. But then you listen to Abu Izzadeen, the gentleman who shouted John Reid down last week, and you can't fail to be disturbed by the raw anger of the man, because anger appears to be the main emotion, if not the only emotion of the minority at the fringes.

Think about it, a Danish newspaper publishes 12 cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad and riots sweep the world, with dozens of deaths. Pope Benedict XVI quotes a 14th-century Byzantine emperor: 'God is not pleased by blood - and not acting reasonably is contrary to God's nature' - and all hell breaks loose.

Al Q'aeda are considered by many to pose the most serious threat of all time to world peace and religious freedom. All attention is focused on the destruction of the military might of the enemy and on the disruption of their communications and supply lines. But it's the wrong strategy; it will never succeed because its fundamental premise is wrong. It is based on a misunderstanding of Al Q'aeda's objectives. Yes, they are committed to the destruction of the West's economic superstructure, and it's true that the infidel must die; America , the Great Satan must be extinguished. But there's a more far-reaching goal, a more sinister plot.

One of their leaders' masks slipped recently, and to miss what he said - as most will - is to miss the opportunity to understand the mind of the enemy. The comment was provoked by the reaction of Militant Islam to Pope Benedict . This is the underlying aim of Al Q'aeda; ' We will destroy the cross . then all that will be accepted will be conversion or death.'

It is true that if the cross were to be destroyed, Christians may indeed have only two options; Islam or death, but Militant Islam will fail because the cross can never be destroyed; it is a fact of history. They will fail as all attempts throughout the ages have failed, because their strategy does not take into account the fact that Jesus is more than a mere prophet.

God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:11).
