The quest for fairness in a finite world

The global ‘credit crunch’ and economic crisis have focused the world’s attention on the fact we live in a finite world, where even money - like land and the earth’s resources - is a limited resource.  The annual Redcliffe/JRI Environment Conference, to be held on Saturday 17 January 2008 at Redcliffe College, Gloucester, explores these issues and is entitled, 'Just living; the quest for fairness in a finite world’.

In just living for today, we have squandered for one generation what has been saved up for many. This conference asks if there is a development model that fits in with how the earth was made, enabling us to live justly alongside our global neighbours, and whether the Bible can help us understand true wealth, which those who are struggling just to live can share.

The day will be chaired by Christopher Jones, Overseas Co-ordinator of the Agricultural Christian Fellowship, and founding member of the Agriculture and Theology Project. Dr Dewi Hughes, Tearfund’s Theological Advisor will be looking at true wealth from a biblical perspective, while Dr Andrew Steer, Director General (Policy and Research) at the UK Department for International Development, will ask whether development in a finite world can be a reality for all. And Peter-Price Thomas, formerly of The Natural Step and founder of Eco-Church, explores God’s hidden blueprint for flourishing in a resource-constrained world. There will also be a Coffee House discussion with some of Redcliffe College’s international students giving their perspectives on the issues, and a choice of interactive workshops led by the speakers.

The day runs from 9.30am – 4.30pm and costs £38 per person, including a two course hot meal. A 10% discount is available for groups of five or more people booking together.
